Overview
Mr. Gétaz is an associate attorney with the Firm and represents federal and state employees, law enforcement officers, private employees and labor unions in a number of employment and labor law matters. In addition, Mr. Gétaz represents federal employees in arbitration matters and before the Merit Systems Protection Board. Mr. Gétaz also advises and represents individuals in need of legal assistance in other federal administrative agency areas, such as retirement matters involving OPM, FERRCA, CSRS and FERS.
Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Gétaz worked in New York City’s Financial District for a firm that acted as General Counsel to the International Longshoremen’s Association, AFL-CIO, as well as some of its affiliated local unions and several pension and benefit funds. Mr. Gétaz's representation of this international labor union required him both to prosecute and to defend labor and employment cases in federal and state courts, as well as administrative agencies, covering all aspects of private sector labor, employment and employee benefit law. Mr. Gétaz litigated ERISA cases in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York, as well as assisted in defending employment discrimination cases in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of New York. Mr. Gétaz's other duties included ensuring pension and benefit funds complied with ERISA, Taft-Hartley, HIPPA, and PBGC rules and regulations; fulfilling federal and state lobbying disclosure requirements; and complying with Department of Labor regulations for union oversight.
Mr. Gétaz received his undergraduate degree from the University of Memphis, where he majored in History and minored in Political Science and English, and earned his juris doctorate from New York Law School. While in law school, Mr. Gétaz completed an externship at the National Labor Relations Board, Region 29. He is licensed to practice law in New York and Connecticut, and admitted in the U.S. Southern District Court of New York and the U.S. Eastern District Court of New York. Mr. Gétaz has filed an application, which is pending, for admission to the District of Columbia Bar. In the interim, Mr. Gétaz is practicing law in the District of Columbia under the supervision of John V. Berry, Esq.
